Join us on Monday, July 7 at 6:30 pm and Wednesday, July 9 at 9:30 am to discuss James by Percival Everett.

    Genre: Historical/ Satire   320 pages

    James: A Novel [Book]

"When Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he runs away until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck has faked his own death to escape his violent father. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Brimming with the electrifying humor and lacerating observations that have made Everett a literary icon, this brilliant and tender novel radically illuminates Jim's agency, intelligence, and compassion as never before. James is destined to be a major publishing event and a cornerstone of twenty-first century American literature."

The only requirement to attend is to read the book!

Copies will be available to borrow at the library one month prior to discussion. It is available as an eBook and audiobook on Libby.

Fun Sculpture: Roll up your sleeves and stick your hands into the bucket of plaster! We need to mix
out the air bubbles before we pour it into a milk carton to set. Later we’ll
use knives and nutpicks to carve. Bendable wire can be twisted into figural
shapes, pieces of wood can be glued together and painted. How about
using plaster-coated strips to make a cast of your foot or hand.
There are all kinds of ways to make three-dimensional art objects. We’re
going to explore several in this sometimes-messy hands on workshop.

This workshop is sponsored by GoArt but will be held at the Richmond Memorial Library!
