What do a small-town Aspie and nine Greek goddesses have in common?
They wrote a book together — the one you’re looking at right now.
In Nine Lives of Autism, Daniel J. Crofts shares his experiences with Asperger Syndrome: his sensory difficulties and social anxiety in early childhood, his family’s search for answers at a time in which answers were few and hard to find, the relief he gained via an early form of auditory integration training, his professional experiences (including as a direct support professional for people with disabilities), his battle with obsessive-compulsive disorder, social situations, and more. He also goes beyond himself by linking his experiences to larger stories, including the history of autism.
As a born storyteller, Crofts structures his memoir according to the Nine Muses of classical mythology. Each chapter is named after one of the Muses and covers a corresponding aspect of Crofts’ life. Drawing upon the imagination and on different forms of writing, Crofts weaves a tapestry that is sure to entertain and inform.
