The Richmond Memorial Library in partnership with community service member MikalinaPellegrino-Scott will be sponsoring a Book Drive for Children’s/Young Adult books starting this month.

The book drive starts July 30 th and runs through August 13 th .  To help kick-off thebook drive, on July 31 st stop into the Richmond Memorial Library and make your donation. Then stop into the Children's Room and meet Mikalina and Miss Ellen and grab a craft to go! The books can be for children/teens of all ages, must be in good condition, and can be dropped offand put in the purple crates in the RML Foyer.

Susan Potera, Youth Services Librarian shared,
“Books are a great way to nourish the growing imagination and improve reading. We are so thrilled that Mikalina has decided to do her community service project with us.”
Batavia is known for being a welcoming community and the donations will truly enhance thechildren’s/young adult G.I.F.T program,” said Teen Library Assistant Ellen Brokaw.

“This program extends out into the community and helps the kids have access to books at specific agencies and businesses in Batavia.”
The goal of the G.I.F.T program is to place as many age appropriate books into the homes of lowincome families as possible.

Having as few as 20 books in the home has a significant impact on
propelling a child to higher lifelong education levels and earnings, potentially breaking the cycle ofintergenerational poverty, and the more books you add, the greater the benefit!
