Policy for Inquiries

All requests must be submitted in writing and include a SASE.

Inquiries will be answered by reference staff as time permits.

When submitting a request, you must include full name of the individual(s) you are interested in, with approximate date of their residence in Genesee County and the town or village within the county in which they resided. Library staff will not research individuals who did not live in Genesee County.

Staff will spend up to one hour checking materials in the library's collection. It is possible that the search may result in little or no information. It is also possible that time limitations will not allow for a thorough search of all pertinent materials in the library's collection.

Photocopies from books and papers are $1.00 per page. Photocopies from microfilm are $5.00 per page. If there is a maximum amount you are willing to pay, please specify that amount when sending your request.

The library can provide you with a list of local researchers who will do searches for a fee. Searches are also available for a fee through the office of the Genesee County Historian, 3 West Main Street, Batavia, New York 14020.

Please note: You are welcome to conduct your research in person at the Richmond Library. There is no charge to use the collection. If making your own photocopies, the charge is 20 cents per page.
