Eat, Read, Grow!

Giving Reading Opportunities

The Eat, Read, Grow program is designed to encourage preschool children and their parents to use the library and participate in a new and exciting program. By using powerful gardening and nutrition themed books, coupled with hands-on related activities and finger plays we will explore what families can do to promote healthy eating habits.

With the help of Cornell Cooperative Extension's nutrition staff, the library will present 6 story times focused on healthy eating. The children can enjoy wonderful stories and fun activities while nutritionists will share with parents some vital and interesting information regarding healthy eating strategies to keep your little one healthy.

Toddler story hourAfter sharing and enjoying 'Mom' time, treats will be offered. Parents are encouraged to share their healthy eating habits with others through an Eat, Read, Grow recipe exchange.

Now that we know about healthy vegetables, how about growing some? The second phase of Eat, Read, Grow will focus on container gardening. Each family will have the opportunity to start fruit and vegetable plants and then take them home to enjoy.

The Eat, Read, Grow program is sponsored by a grant through the New York State Family Literacy Library Services.
